Random nonsense
My entry in Steve's Hakkliha Remix Competition. No, I can't sing. But I can sure make a ukulele sound like an electric guitar!
My Doodle gallery, mostly from the margins of class notes ten years ago.
Before I started working for Panic, I played around with Flash a lot. I started two open source projects: Ming, a library for creating SWF files, and Flirt, an SWF rendering library. Ming has been relatively successful, as open source projects go—I even did a successful hand-off to another developer, so I don't have to feel guilty about bugs. Flirt suffered the fate of 99% of open source projects: I didn't get it feature complete before I decided I didn't have enough time for it, and nobody has shown up to pick it back off the floor. It was fun, but not enough fun to not get paid for it.

About Dave
I live in Portland, Oregon with my wife and two old, grey cats named Fat and Bad. When I'm not in front of the computer, I'm usually taking photos or reading or in the bath. Or reading in the bath, with a cup of coffee. But usually, I'm on the computer. I have a vague plan to make a career change so that I spend less time sitting staring into a screen and more time in blue tropical waters.
I grew up in Austin, Texas. There's a freeway now where the empty field at the entrance to the neighborhood was. I came out to Portland, Oregon for school and ten years later it seems I'm still here, though now married and homeowning. I always thought I would move back to Austin, but I don't think I could spend that much of my life in a car.
I work for Panic, Inc. making Macintosh software. I'm mostly responsible for our fabulous, Apple DesignAward-winning Usenet client Unison.I can't take credit for any of the slick UI design; everything else, though (bugs too), that's me.
About this site
I tried setting up a "blog" before but stopped after three posts, just like everyone else. Something about the formality of Movable Type turned me off. Sure, it's great that it can do trackbacks and comments and everything, but all I wanted was some place to write things that come to mind so I can remember what I was doing now later. And so people who know me can check in every once in a while. This time, I just threw some simple PHP together. I like it better.
So, to be clear, this is not a "blog"! It's a web journal, or björnal for short. After that guy in ABBA. And the tennis player.
If you want to send me an email, there's my address on the right.
